Wasatch Front; Utah High Country

Courtesy of our good friend and fellow Pro Staffer, Glen G:

What can I say, I'm a lucky man. Yet another ski vacation; seems like a annual occurrence these days. And yet again, we found it hard to go any where else but Utah, and its laborious 20 minute drive to the mouth of Little Cottonwood Canyon from SLC Int. Airport. I'm not gonna say much about the skiing, at least the first few days. It was warm and somewhat sunny at times and some times cloudy and cooler. But it was always windy. 20-30 mph were the norm and there were gusts above 50 mph. We skied Brighton on Sunday; Snowbird on Monday; Deer Valley and its manicured groomers on Tuesday. Took off Wednesday, at least I did. Everyone else went X-country, and all agreed conditions sucked, as it was so windy it blew pine cones all over tracks. We drove to Park City for some kickin back time and dinner Wednesday, amidst a raging, albeit short lived, real western blizzard. Snowed sideways the entire way home, complete with thundersnow. Dropped about 8-9 inches in about 3 hours. We were lucky to escape unscathed and get home in one piece. Doug was dead on behind the wheel and narrowly averted 2 crashes. The next, and last day to ski was pure bliss with a fresh foot of that famous Utah pow. And so, to take advantage of this fine day, and the fact that we did ski it yet, we went to Alta.

Alta still rules, nuff said......

Oh yeah, pics are in chronological order.....from Brighton to Alta.

I think I saw that 3 hour "loading event" on the weather maps last Wednesday. You could tell it was gonna be a big dump. I could never get bored with powder skiing like that, and I now see why some of the early pioneers of modern skiing like Dick Durrance were attracted to the place.

Thanks for the awesome photo tour of the Wasatch. Makes me want to check some fares on Expedia.
